Default Black Smoke

Hi I have done some mods to my 88' GT (Canadian) Mustang and I have a good question about what I'm encountering right now: What's going on? The car has 110k miles and it's been running great and even greater after I installed the CAI. The car has no cats and ran great before I had to store it for 4 weeks (Left rear spring broke). My springs got installed and the car is out now but I have this big problem: a big cloud of black smoke going out of the exhaust whenever I hammer the trigger. I haven't changed oil after getting it out from these 4 weeks of storage. Might be? Had a really bad idle as well when I got it out, almost completly fixed after installation of Accufab 65mm TB. I installed the Performance Distributors' Firepower Kit and had to get the distributor out. I didn't put it back on the right timing position and it began detonating. I then lowered the timing but I'll need to get it even lower cause' it feels like it's still detonating. Now, the car's idle is rather good but I have this black smoke problem and I really wonder what it could be cause' it smokes like a bus in bad condition whenever I hammer it. Speed density not doing the job? Running too rich? Bad timing?

Thanks a lot!

you need to use a timing light, ear isnt accurate enough. after that drive it for a couple days and the smoke might disappear. also you need to reset the computer after all this.

have you reset the computer after you have installed all those parts. Black smoke means you are running rich and you need to take a timing light to the car to see the timing is at. You can advance the timing to 12* with no problem

Your burning rich.

Check all your sensors that are in the intake and exhaust. Particularly the oxygen sensors. Make sure they work and have not gummed up either.

first check and see the placment of the Dist. also check for a broken vaccum line. SD when encounterd with a bad vaccum line will run rich

Yes I would really suggest running a vacuum test. If your o2 sensor sees to much oxygen it will dump more fuel. Are you only seeing black smoke when you stomp it when you first hit WOT or does the smoke stay black through WOT. If its only black when you stomp it at first I'm guessing you have a vacuum run fuel pressure regulator and its just opening all the way when you stomp it because vacuum goes to 0 for a split second.

When I installed my Firepower Package I haven't been careful with the distributor's position and I put it at teh wrong timing... The car was at 26 degrees O_O I got it fixed up and it's at 14 now. Thanks a lot with your help guys I'll see if it runs better and tell you later...
