Default Problem with Hammer Shifter

Put in B&M Hammer Shifter on aod and I'm having problems with getting it into correct gear. Here's what it does: (starting all the way forward) park, pull up and 1 click reverse, pull back 1 click either reverse again or neutral, pull back 1 click neutral, pull back 1 click overdrive, pull back 1 click drive. I cannot manually shift it into 1 (or low). It did just come back from a trans shop (I rebuilt trans and took it in to get checked out and tv cable adjusted correctly). They didn't know why it was doing that. Either shifter is messed up or maybe the shifter cable is bad? They did disconnect it and they could push it into 1st from under the car. Anyone had this problem, or any suggestions?

the hammer shifter is a junk piece and thats just how it works. alot of users have that issue with it. and tell you the truth you wasted money on that shifter. a stock one does just fine. autos are ment to be left in one gear. this is why they make shiftkits. now if youre using a manual vb then i rachet shifter is better then teh hammer

I had problems with the stock one also, reason why I'm questioning the cable. I'm not understanding when you say autos are meant to be left in one gear. When I drive, it goes in overdrive, when I drag it goes in drive. I don't use 1st but it is suppost to be able to be manually shifted there. I did replace the vb, which does have a shift kit per say in it.
