Default Bad Temp Gauge?

Hey guys,. I am having a bit of a problem, my temp gauge is acting a bit goofy, I can get in and start it instead of reading cold it is starting off at the point that it should be after warming up. I thought it may be a temp sensor I replaced it today and that changed nothing, then I thought maybe stuck thermo but both hoses are filled and hot after an appropriate time. Then it will start at normal position at another start then be okay, or start out and then read hot. It is not overheating, smell no coolant, hear no gurggling from the over flow, so I am wondering if it can only be the gauge itself any help would be appreciated, thanks. Randy

I know the gages in Fox cars were iffy, so the SN gages are probably as bad. I just put in an A-pillar pod and installed Autometer temp. and oil pressure gages and tee-d the fittings to keep the factory gages working. To give you an idea, when my Autometer reads 50 psi oil pressure at warm idle, the factory gage is around 30 psi.

which temp sensor did you replace?

the one in the end of the heater core tubes, or the one with a single wire that is mounted on the drivers side of the lower intake?

Default Replaced sensor

I replaced the one right beside the thermostat, went out this morning and it was still acting retarded was resting on normal position at start up then went to redline saying hot ,...but again no gurggling or coolant smell,... so the only thing I can think is gauge,.. will probably go ahead and change thermo too cheap part and that will help rule it out anyway,.Thanks to all of you if you can think of any other ideas please let me know.

the sensor to the left(looking at it) or passenger side of the motor... is for the computer.

try replacing the one with the single wire that comes out of it(right side) on the drivers side

i also went with the pillar pod and gauges...its kinda hard to trust 20+ year old gauges. but i think that what u are looking for is the temperature switch. it costs around $7, but for $16 you can get a mechanical gauge kit at autozone or something...if u can, go with autometer or equivalent...
