Every T-5 grinds going into reverse unless you put in 5th gear and then into reverse, unless you put the gear box into reverse as soon as you START the car... BEFORE the gear box internals are spinning. THERE IS NO SYNCRO FOR THE REVERSE GEAR. THE TRANS USES FIRST GEAR IN REVERSE FOR THE REVERSE GEAR!!!

I have a god damn brand new Tremec T-5 with 3000 miles on it and even with 0 miles on it it grinded going into reverse unless you put it into 5th gear.

IF YOUR SHIFTING SUCKS WITH STOCK QUADRANT AN AFTERMARKET QUADRANT WILL NOT HELP YOU!!!!!

I think it is definitely the quadrant because what Jfsram said didnt work well. i.e. it was grinding when putting it into reverse.
Not sure what's with all the capitol letters in the above post but it contains many obvious signs of lack of knowledge.

My advice does not neccessarily point to a quadrant. It just means the clutch disc is still spinning when it should not be.

Still many possiblilities:
-not enough pull on the cable, which can be quadrant, adjustment, cable etc.
-disc is broken and dragging on the flywheel
-problem with pilot bushing or bearing which can drag the input shaft.
-pressure plate is broken

man that quadrant was the biggest pain in the *** to change. we didn't remove the column just dropped it and it was real crappy to change, but an adjustable cable with a aftermarket clutch might help you. i'm not a pro or anything like that but it took about an hour to break the plastic quadrant off the pedal assembly because getting in there with a big enough pry bar to bust it is a bitch.

Jfsram: I tried to adjust the stock quadrant and it worked for around 4-5 min before resetting itself to factory. While it was in the new setting the gears switched like a charm. I just got my new quadrant and have started installing it today. The quadrant comes off like a charm, but the pawl needs to be broken off. I am using a hacksaw blade to slowly trim it off. I expect to be done with this by tomorrow. After this the re-installation is relatively simple.

So I put in the new quadrant and adjusted it. I thought this was going to be an easy task, but taking the old pawl out took a long time as I chopped it off. Anyway: it seems hyper smooth now. Thanks everyone!
