Is IRS worth all the work
I have a 1988 LX and was wondering if it was worth putting a IRS in before I do the Dominator wide body or should I just beef up the factory suspension. My car is almost a daily driver but I would like to start doing road racing. I know one benefit of IRS is you can lower the car a lot more, but like I said it gets driven a lot on the road.

A properly setup 3 or 4 link will handle just as well as an IRS, though the IRS will perform better over rougher roads, and will ride smoother. Personally I don't think it's worth it, especially when you consider the multitude of variables in an IRS going into a car not originally designed for it. Too many adjustments for most people and you may never get it set up right to where it performs as well as the factory suspension. Unless you have someone who's REALLY good at setting up chassis and IRS, chances are you'll never get it working any better than modified stock suspension.
The only exception would be a vehicle chassis that had both an IRS and a different suspension setup, where swapping the IRS in is essentially a stock deal with known performance variables.

If you want road racing in a fox look at Maximum Motorsports. Ive got an entire MM setup (minus rear sway) and it will do 85mph around a corner and not squeal a single tire. Granted the rear rides a little round. I think I hitting the stock bumpstops though.
