Default 88 bad ecu

I have a 1988 California mustang automatic with a bad ecu. It has MAF so I know a normal 88 ecu will not work. I sent it in to have it repaired but the processor is fried, so it is not rebuild able. So I was wondering if any other years or makes of ecu's will work.

What caused it to die? New ECU will have same problem if not corrected.

I was an idiot and connected a electric fan up to a wire I didn't trace, and it shorted out.

I had the shop take the ecu out, but now I need to go the junkyard to see what I can find. Can any one tell me were the heck the ecu is located at on my 88?
