Because I can't afford to buy a c4 or a t5 tranny. I could have bought a 302 with a c4 tranny for $300 that came out of a mustang, but he wasn't sure how many miles was on it, it had been sitting in his garage for 5 years, and I didn't have the money for it. This engine was in my uncles van, was rebuilt to a HO 302, only has 50,000 miles on it, and was free. All he wanted was for me to get the van out of his yard because his landlord was complaining.

Ok, I understand that but you can get a c4 probably just as cheap as you could the linkages/cable setup you need to try and run what you have. The last c4 I bought was $100. It was full of water from sitting outside. I pulled it apart and cleaned it out and it ran perfectly fine the whole time I beat on it. They can sit for years and still work just fine.

Hey! This is the administrator from Mustang Solution. I accidentally deleted your account off the forum when dealing with all of the spammers we had. I wanted to apologize for this and invite you to come back as a moderator. I could not figure out how to contact you any other way so I apologize if this looks ridiculous. Anyways please feel free to re-register if you get this. I could not figure out how to send a private message to you on here either! I hope there are no hard feelings!

^^^^^^ wtf

anyway, our local orielly's has a shifter that would work perfectly for you, its a truck shifter so you'd have to cut the rod down and re-thread it but that shouldn't be too much work. I'll see if i can find it.

edit: of course the Orielly's site is a pita, but anyway, ebay lookup three speed shifter, finding the rods probably won't (could happen but odds are agianst you) happen, but they have old hurst 3 speed shifters for differing models (you'll have to pick the right one) but look around they were cheap.

I found a 3 speed factory ford mustang shifter for a 69 mustang on ebay, starting bid $25, but when I asked the guy if it would fit my 80 mustang he told me no because the 80 mustangs are built in. I think he's talkin about a top loader transmission, even though I told him I put in an old 3 speed transmission and needed a shifter like that. It's like some people only read part of something and think they know everything lol. It was the shifter arm (no ***) and linkage rods, just no tabs, but I have those still on the tranny of mine. I will check out the oreily site, there is one in the town next to me. They usually have great prices, and if you find a better price, they'll beat it.

That is the link to ebay for the 1969 mustang 3 speed shifter I was talking about. The guy sent me another email tellin me that if my transmission has 3 holes for the shifter to mount on, I might be able to use it. Tell me what you think. If it'll work, it's a good deal.

he was simply saying that the shifter in a t-5 is built in, you need to get the model number off of your tranny, also, do you know what kind've bellhousing/flywheel/clutch you're putting in there?

Well, I pulled this all out of a van, so I don't know what all is in it, but I know it is an 80 block rebuilt to a HO 302. I don't know the year of the transmission, but it's a 72 van, so I'm assuming it's a 72 transmission. I have the engine hanging on a hoist right now, and tomorrow going to change the oil pan, engine mounts, etc., and drop it in my mustang, then put the transmission in, so I'll check out the transmission then. I also know the 3 speed is the same length as the 4 speed that was originally in the mustang, but the 4 speed won't bolt up the the 302 bellhousing. That's about everything I know right now lol.
