The catalytic system on a mustang is made to work with the air pump, its not required but without the air pump the cats have a possibility of clogging in a rich condition

should make it, you can still fail the visual inspection though, here in NC they don't really care

I lived in Upstate NY for 13 years and never had an issue with inspection....moved to NC 2 years ago.... Local garage crawled all over my car for 45 MINUTES!! He was real hung up on the 02 sensors being in place *which I have*
NEVER, NEVER had an inspection like I have here in NC.

I won't be going there for an inspection again.....

weird, even in the places where they throughly inspect my stuff they take fifteen minutes, though my normal place doesn't even make me pull the cars in anymore, they just write up the new inspection

Question, did you go to garage and say "That is how we do it in NY yooouse guys" and wonder what happened next? Have NY plates? Good ol boy may have had a bit of fun at your expense. Sent pm to explain the undercover DMV persons that take people to court for messing up a inspection. Better to be very thorough when in doubt as to intentions of car owner unknown to inspector. CYA...I did inspections for 16 years and never had a violation. Bubba
