RE: 3.73 gear cost and installation
i didnt know you had aposi in a ford, did you have fun with the springs in the posi? since posi's use springs and limited slips like the ford traction lok has clutches...
also you can install gears without doing backlash but it will lead to premature wear/howling
also 300 is to high to do gears. 150 gets you a rebuild. and if you do axles they cant charge you more cause you need to remove them anyways to do gears but they will try to charge a Pup that extra money

i say posi, traction lok same thing.. i know it isnt the same, but when u say it everyone thinks of it the same here, and it was simple.. just stack the new clutches and metals right, and have .045 shim on each side = voila, working trac lok. and my gears i didnt need to change the backlash.. firsty try i checked and it was pretty right on, .11 or something, .011 i dont know anymore, but i used ford gears and i guess they are the easiest to use.

I've figured, including fluids and everything, the cost for the purchase of a whole rear end rebuild. This does not include the purchase of a new rear end or anything just a rebuild, replacing bearings and the whole shebang. I totaled up to $320.00. Now that is an extreme and that was with the lowest prices that I could find. You can get by with just gears and a trac-loc rebuild which is dang near half that if you don't want to go that extra mile. Once I can get my brother in law down here and get enough money to buy everything he said that he'd set it up for free (he's got the dial indicators and everything, he's set up rear ends before). So what you need to do now is go out and find a buddy that knows rear ends, or win the lottery lol.
