Gear Drive Help!!!
Do any of you guys have a gear drive on your car? I'm running into a little problem with mine, The instructions from comp lack information. The problem i have with mine is with the thrust plate, when the thrust plate is bolted into place, the cam gear only sits about half way onto the dog bone. When i have the thrust plate off, everything is perfectly aligned. How important is the thrust plate? to me it just looks like an over thought oiling issue. does the thrust plate play any important roll as of keeping the cam from shifting around?

I'm not doing a timing chain, and i dont have the Torrington bearing that they are talking about, the only bearings are the 2 in the dogbone, The cam gear slides onto the cam and the problem i am having is with the thrust plate and finding out the importance of the thrust plate. And maybe some consider the pin that goes through the cam gear into the cam a bearing. but correct me if i am wrong, this is my first time doing a gear drive timing and its screwing with my head and i could use all the help i can get

Throw the geardrive in the trash and get a good quality double roller chain. You will thank us later when your valvetrain is still intact, and your cam hasn't been destroyed by the harmonics that the geardrive will cause.

i just pulled off a quality double roller since it had over an inch of play.

You need the thrust plate. It does direct oil. But, more importantly, it keeps the cam in the right place. Once installed, the thrust plate sits between the front face of the cam, and the rear face of the cam gear. I don't recall the exact amount of end play there, but it isn't much.
