several newbie questions
My son and I just picked up a rolling chassis 86 gt. it needs a little bit of everything or maybe allot of everything. I am looking to find out what year transmissions will work in the car (5 speed) and what would be the ideal engine to put in the car. I need to find a steering rack, radiator, engine, tranny and exhaust. plus more but that is the short list and need some guidence this is a budget build to stock or there abouts. so any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks for your time

anything from '86-'93 is interchangeable, the wheel openings on your car are a little smaller than in '91+ cars tho... so if you replace a fender with a newer one, you wanna replace both. thats about it.
t5 transmissions just got better through the years, with the '93 t5z being the best production t5 you could get
here is a little info on t5's

i am a fan of gt40 stuff.....not the "p" stuff from explorers... but the '93 cobra stuff. good budget base to start with

thats great info. I had found a 95 tranny that I was considering for a reasonable price but I will hold off. We found a f150 with a running 302 out of a mustang that we will get the engine out of and selli the truck to offset the cost hopefully.

ok good to know. Jefferson swap meet is coming up so I may have to bring a trailer to get all the parts I need. for some reason the PO took out the gas tank and the steering rack so I have to find stupid stuff but thanks for all the help
