Cleaning Throttle Body - Ford Sticker Says NO!
I have done the searches and I have seen the warnings. I still have a couple questions.
As mentioned in my sig, I have a 93 5.0 coupe. It has 91,XXX original miles and was mildly modded when I got it. I have done the misc maintenance and I have slowly gotten the car into "proper" condition (glad to have A/C back!). A few more small things and I will call her good to start modding.
I still have a FoMoCo sticker on the stock TB that says not to use Carb Cleaner" or something to that affect to clean the TB.
My question is first off, Really? And second is this the mysterious "coating" (Teflon like?) that Ford is concerned will be cleaned off with carb cleaner?
I suppose I should buy the gaskets, get some environmentally safe (Teflon safe) cleaner, take the thing off and clean it all nice like, huh?
Any more info on this would be appreciated. Thanks again to all.

Its true. A lot of the OEMs used a coating on the bores to help prevent buildup where the throttle plate comes close to the bore.
There is a special throttle body spray cleaner that is made for this.
If someone used something that did disolve the coating.. (I did once) all you gotta do is slightly close the throttle plate a little with the set screw and then reset / redo the idle learn process.

just spray it clean with whatever, I don't worry about the stupid sticker, done it hundreds of times and never any issue, ford even went to the extreme of making an idle air bypass plate to avoid cleaning TB cause they had their panties in such a wad over the coating, BS in my opinion and never had an issue doing such, if such worries you have a professional BG induction clean done, I say just clean it, you'll be fine.
