Default shifting problems: 87' GT

Hey, thanks for checking out my thread. I have a 1987 Mustang GT automatic, with a shift kit. I noticed when I was driving, it wouldn't shift into second, third and fourth. It was odd, fluids checked our okay, and I changed the filter. No improvement.
Any ideas what it is? And a quick write up.

So you are stuck in first gear....does it go into reverse and drive fine?

Did you purchase the car like this, it just happen or did you do something and now this happened?

Is your TV cable adjusted properly?

Bingo. I bet the grommet rotted and it fell out.

If this is the case, and you drive the car......the trans is smoked.

See, only part of it is not shifting. The other part is that its not putting any pressure on the bands. So your driving it is slipping the **** out of it. Wasting the bands and drums.

ok, for what its worth.....

I thought of one other. I had a car that had sat for a few years. The lever for the TV cable actually stuck in the pulled position when I first got it back out. The car felt normal in first gear , no slipping. It just wanted to hold first gear to redline and felt like it was never going to shift.

Just in case, since you didnt mention any slipping.

Also, if the trans is actually an AODE and not a AOD it won't shift either unless you have the ECU to go with it.

Might I add, there was no slipping. Just seemed like it wasn't going into gears. anyway to properly adjust RV cables? I got it to shift today, but it shifts abnormally early. The guy before me installed a shift kit, this never happened until a week ago. I got the car a month ago. Any ideas?
