I have 3.73's on my 89 and they rock. Some people say go 4.10's but personally i think 3.73s are enough (i've never tried 4.10's though). Its pretty much personal preference. Either way you will get and feal a big difference

everyone says the 4.10s will max out on the highway. it also seems that everyone has the 3.73 for daily drivers. the 4.10s are more for just racing. i have the 3.73s.

hey i have a 89 5.0 aod also and i went with 4.10's. i dont know if you know this but when floored it will not shift into overdrive and 3rd gear maxes out fast at 100mph and the engine is redlined. after about 2 weeks i toasted the overdrive gear, so now i have to be very easy on it when its shifting into overdrive. overdrive has the weakest band and you will be in it all the time with gears. in third gear at 70 i know its atleast 3000-3200 rpm's and if you floor it you will be at redline 3 seconds later and overdrive is of no use unless you let off the gas for 3 seconds waiting for it to shift lol. Overall i love the gears and i dont drive on the highway, first and second gear pulls so hard, i just wish i had 4 selectable strong bands. 1,2,3,4 without the stupid 1,d,od with the weak overdrive.

I also have the 4:10`s with aod. I too have the od shifting problem. I do drive highway some and I run approx. 2500 at 60mph. 3200 in drive. I also have a shift kit and find myself lugging in 3rd when just cruising at like 25mph. But man, when you put the hammer down and it drops to 1st, goes sideways in 2nd, and then chirps in drive wow hold on to your jewls, lol.

Ya it`s fine. It`s a new transmission. I have heard that since I am running low gears my transmission is going to shift more times going the same distance, causing early tranny failure. I don`t have problems with overdrive shifting into gear unless I am floored. Otherwise it shifts into gear firmly. The stock tranny with a shift kit lasted till about 4-5 years ago, then it was replaced.
