Default AOD shifter cable replacement

I have tried adjusting my cable but it is either stretched or broken somewhere. It will NOT go into 1 and park its either or. I really can't afford $80 for a new replacement which leads me to look at aftermarket cables. Has anyone used a universal cable with any luck from summit or somewhere else?

As a tech, I highly advise against using anything labeled as "universal". Most times, making them fit & work ends up costing as much or more than OEM replacements.

I understand, I'm just curious if any of the B@m or hurst cables would work on the fox body. They are a better cable, have better connections on the end and are half the price. I want to order a B@m cable with a loop/threaded end and attach the hoop to the AOD and use an adjustable ball socket on the threaded end for the shifter mount.

The c4 trans conversion uses a b&m cable but for the aod you want the stock cable which is much better quality than the other cables. If your not getting first gear or park, put the shifter in neutral, loosen the cable slide nut at the trans and pull the cable towards the engine with pliers to take the slack out and tighten the cable slide nut.

Thanks for the info 4drnut. I have tried leaving it in OD and adjusting the slack in the slide nut both ways with no luck. I will try it in N and if that doesn't work I guess I will have to buy a new oem cable.
