Default Car Wont shut off!

Hi guys. Took the car for a spin around the block just to keep the battery charged. Got home and went to shut the key off and the car wouldn't stop running. Pulled the coil wire to shut it off and restarted the car. Starts fine but same thing wont shut off. I thought it was the ignition tumbler and took that out. wasn't the problem. Dug into the steering column and found a plastic actuator was broken. Anybody know what this part is called and can it be ordered at the local parts store. Tried to explain what I needed to the guy at Pep Boys and he looked at me like a squirrel was on my head. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Was there actually a squirrel on your head? That may be why the guy couldn't give you a straight answer. Go back tomorrow, and after making sure your head is squirrel-free, talk to a different employee. That guy might have been high to begin with. LOL

Without the benefit of photos, I think the thing you're looking for is an ignition actuator.

LOL f&%Kin squirrels. Thats exactly what I called it when I spoke to him. I'll get some pictures tomorrow. Is this a fairly easy item to replace assuming thats whats wrong. Ran out of light before I could dig any deeper into the steering column.?

Here you go, a link to someone with a problem that's right on par with yours. I hope the actuator is easier than replacing the rod, because the rod is rumored to be a cast iron b!tch...

Call your local Ford parts department. They will have exploded views of the column and can tell you exactly what you are looking for and if the part is still available. Years ago, there was a pot metal actuator arm that was notorious for breaking and we kept the bin full at all times. I'm not too familiar with the internals of the column on your car, but a good Ford parts guy will be.
