I have an 89 Gt manual and after I put in a T-5 from a 85 mustang the key stopped starting the car.

The plugs on the neutral safety's did not match but I can connect the leads, but the key still won't start it. When I turn the key, the electrics (radio/lights) turn off until it's back to the run position.

I can start the car via the solenoid, as long as the key is in run position.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be? Do the neutral safeties work differently? Can I bypass it?
