Default Fuel Gauge help

I have a 1990 5.0, Pretty much stock as far as the engine and drive train go. Everything on the car works except my fuel gauge. With the car off, the gauge will travel to about a 1/4 tank. As soon as I turn the key, it drops to empty. I have replaced the sending unit, with no luck. Am I missing something or do I need to replace the instrument panel?

Wiring connection is faulty, or the gauge is dead.

Same with mine, and if its over half it says full. Then when I have a little under half it drops down.

@ Vasura, that problem is 1000% your sending unit. Mine did that crap before I switched it out, now it's fine going on 6 years. Probably its the sending unit for Stuck, too. I'd bet that most fuel gauge problems in these cars go straight back to the sending unit. Think about it, that piece of electronics has been kinda floating in a strong solvent for 20 years. LOL
