Don't remove it unless you're running without an EGR system. It's purpose is to cool incoming EGR airflow so you don't have pinging due to overheated combustion chambers.
The only way it will help is if you've found a way to lower your combustion temperatures to a degree below that of the ambient air. Otherwise, as I said, if the EGR system is still operative, leave them hooked up.
When I bought my car mine were not hooked up...still not. My egr is still hooked up. Can that cause the car to run a little hot? Not sure if I should hook them back up

Every car is a bit different, and location matters alot, but yes they can cause the car to run hot. Not because they help with coolant flow, but because they lower the combustion temperature, which in turn lowers your overall engine temperature. Not having them hooked up can help contribute to engine failures, like blown rings and valve seals.
Good to know! Maybe I will hook them back up...I'm in new Hampshire where it has been hot! My car runs hot in this weather so i don't even bother driving it...no a/c either! Runs over 210 with new radiator..electric fan and 180 thermostat.
In the summer i run my car without a thermostat and the hottest it will run is 160. And this is in weather in deep south texas that reaches triple digits on a daily basis.
