Default new 347 smokes, oil on plugs

ok guys heres my dilema

i bought a prebuilt 347 never been run. swapped out my 302 and carbed it. pvc runs from valve cover to carb, and i have a breather on the other cylinder. put it all together and fired her up and she smokes like a banshee. im talking thick heavy smoke at idle and when you rev it. i drove it around the neighbor hood and you could tell which way i went by following the trail of smoke. pulled the plugs and all 8 were covered in oil deposits. cleaned off the plugs, tightened things down ran it again and the plugs got covered in oil again.

i checked intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, seals are new, guides are good. no oil on the intake walls, pcv isnt leaking oil either.

all thats left are rings right?
any ideas?

I have seen motors with the oil rings left out on purpose that didn't smoke like that.

I would at least take it out and punch it one time through all the gears. I doubt it will do anything but, if it was new, I would give it a shot just for the hell of it.

I don't guess it got turned upside down with oil in it?

You may want to stop killing it asap, a 347 with a 5.4 rod uses oil control ring spacers that may have been left out in yours?? A ring check is a must!

im going to take your advice. ive already driven it a few times and i dont want to damage it any further.

however, one more question. it still has the break-in oil in the crank case. this shouldnt be the cause of my problem right?

No. I would probably do what the guy above you posted. I knew nothing about spacers. It sounds like that is the problem.

Breakin oil? in a hydraulic roller engine? well ok! it wasnt needed but hey it cant hurt i guess.
Because of the ring lands design in the 3.4 stroked application the oil control rings have spacers that have to be used or you get a mess as a result!

The 331 3.25 stroker has a different piston hieght so you dont have them in that setup.

The oil ring land on the 347 piston is cut into the wrist pin hole to help with the sealing and oil consumtion they use a spacer under the oil control ring trio.

If you have a DSS rotating assembly with there 5.315 rod then there 347 doesnt use the spacer rings since the piston wrist pin is lowered in the piston design!
