rattling when accelerating

Still needs to be dialed in correctly, as this is a band-aid fix.
The timing could have been where it needed to be, and you're covering a bigger problem by retarding it.

Get a sheet of very fine grit sandpaper or some emery cloth, remove any crap that's obscuring the timing marks on the balancer, and time it properly. Stock is 10* BTDC, most 89 octane stock foxes can handle 13-14* without pinging(the noise you're referring to).

I have seen alot of people linking a rattling noise to Speedometer cable.
