Default problems with electrical

i bought a 1995 ford mustang gt with the 5.0L v8 302 obviously as you all know. damn good car and all but when i tore the front of the motor apart to take out a broken bolt that was causing an air pocket in the coolant circulation i had put the timing cover back together and had all parts back on and was looking around with a trouble light to look for leaks. basically grounded out the battery and scared the **** out of myself. driver side headlight is now dim at about 50% power it seems. ive been told bad ground but i checked all the grounds i could find and didnt fix a thing. replaced the bulb and nothing. dimmer switch all fuses and still nothing if anyone has any ideas id like to hear them.

also the left turn signal blinks in the headlight when the headlights are on and the arrow stays on in the gauge cluster. but when the running lights are on i get my turn signal back and the arrow goes away and i still have the turn signal when the switch is pushed in all the way to no headlights i guess you would call it. its the damndest thing ive ever seen.

You have a short somewhere that is taking power away from the headlight circuit. The fact that you have other electrical components that are acting strange when a different circuit gets power is more evidence to that theory. You can test this theory with a voltage drop test via an inexpensive volt or multi meter. Takes about 2 minutes.

Where would the first place to look be? I'm just going to assume te fuse panel wiring an area under the hood? I glanced at my wires but I can't find any melted ones and I've checked Agee wires with my voltage meter but to no avail.

It is hard to say where to look. That is one of the problems with electrical problems, they can sometimes be anywhere. Without the wiring diagram for your car it can be a real PITA to find electrical shorts/problems. Start at the lights and work back doing successive voltage drop tests. That is where I would start. If you don’t have a lot of experience with electrical then I would take it to a shop and have them diagnose it. Make sure they are comfortable with electrical work though. A good electrical tech can find issues like this (with the wiring diagram) in an hour or so. but it can take longer.

Good luck...
