Well finally was able to get the rear end of the car up today , What I found was 0 preload on the pinion bearings. Luckily I found no bits of metal our chunks of bearing in the case and surprisingly the gears looked pretty good other than a small bur on the outside valley at every tooth. So I pulled it all apart and set the carrier up on the bench and cleaned all the burs off with a dremel . Pinion bearings were in good shape , but I opted to just replace them for piece of mind. New crush collar and set the preload and back lash . Couple bottles of royal purple/w friction modifier. Also replaced the transmission cross member to body bushings with some polly type from summit . Slapped it all back together and took it for a spin. All is quiet , no more humming , no more ringing drive shaft. Nice and quiet.

And yes they are ford racing 3.55s

On a lighter note. Whoever installed the headers used stock e7 header gaskets and they were about a 1/4 " to small for the openings in the heads lol. Put a nice set of edelbrach gaskets on . The ones that were on it burned out and were leaking.

Has the transmission speedo gear been swapped for the 3.55's?

I really couldn't say . It has some weird speedometer face . It says Saleen on the face but the needle is pinned at 10mph so it doesn't go below 10. I have never seen one like that before. The speedo works but its weird that the stop pin is at 10mph.

While I was under the car I found the tag on the transmission . It is a M-7003-z which translates to a tremec heavy duty t5.

The guy told me that before the trecmec it ate 2 borg stock t5s so he ordered the brand new tremec. I really can tell its new , the thing shifts like it has silk gears.

Good find on the Z-spec T5, nice to know the po was truthful/honest with you.

And the "shifts like silk", must be nice. What shifter is in there?
