A gas leak

Look under car while its idling, look for the puddle. Fix the leak.

Pull a plug, or just look inside tailpipe, if its burning that rich it'll be black as black. She'll be an eye burner also.

But you should be able to tell the difference between raw gas and unburned fuel. If you think you smell raw gas, you should check tank, fuel lines for safety. My tank just started leaking at the seem before I put it away this fall. That's what I'll be doing in spring.
