Default Steering lock

How can I remove the steering lock from my '84? This is a strip car only and I don't really want to have the lock in case I ever need to shut it off quickly while in motion.....
Thanx.....

Tell you how me and a buddy once did it on a nissan. The one guy gets inside the car and pushes the steering wheel counter clockwise and the other guy pulls the steering wheel ccw. We used enough force and the steering lock gave way.

I wouldn't do that, something else may break too.
