95 gt power everything. Replaced the window motor and now I can't get the plastic piece that goes on the door panel (the piece that holds the master windows & locks)

What I had to do for the motor to work was run new wire directly to the window motor. The wire is thicker & stiffer than the ford wiring. I ran the wire up the harness through the door & attached it with electric tape to the harness and used butt plugs to connect to the harness. I have tried everything I know & also had someone else try to get it in. Oh the plastic piece is BRAND NEW & was fitting fine prior to the new wiring.

Could the wiring be the problem?
