1995 Mustang GT, 172,000 miles

On account of a coolant leak, I am preparing to change my water pump. But with this many miles on the engine, I want to take care of other nearby items in the interest of preventative maintenance.

From what I've been reading, this seems to be right about the time that timing cover gaskets and harmonic dampers/balancers tend to develop issues. So I'm adding those to my list. I figure I might as well throw on a new timing chain kit before sealing it back up, too. It appears that front main seals come included with TC-gasket kits, so that's a plus.

What else should I add to my list? Feel free to make brand/part recommendations, too. I'm leaning toward the FRPP M-6316-M50 harmonic damper and a Fel-Pro gasket kit.

 

If you are taking the timing cover off be aware that you may tear the oil pan gasket. The fel-pro kit comes with parts to fix that but they're not as good as a one-piece oil pan gasket which may require pulling engine to change depending on your k-member.

 

Yeah, that's the one thing I don't like about these. K-member is stock, and doesn't afford much room by the oil pan for gasket changes. I'll try my luck with the kit and see if I can avoid doing the whole pan.
