Default Engine Replacment

I need a little help deciding on which way to go about replacing my tired 302
My car is a 1985 GT 5-speed
I can not decide on weither to buy the motor from ford racing for $3500-345HP
or buy a 347 short block for $2500
or the 347 kit from Ford $1500
The kit would require machining and balencing
I belive gt-40 heads would be a good match for any of the motors any help?
I am aiming for 350-400 HP and spending no more than 4500 on the long block

ya im somewhat in the same spot as you.. im leaning towards the crate engine myself.

im thinking about doing ether the 302 @ 350 hp or the 347 stroker at 400 and putting a blower on it

I think you will need more than a GT-40 head to get the most out of a 347. Just MHO........

i say go with the 351w. it will last a lot longer then the 347. no matter who makes the 347 kit, down the road it will begin to consume oil. the 351 would be a much better choice. stick some afr's on it and youll be making some decent power.

You should just do it now. Theres no point of rebuilding an entire motor just to take it apart in 10 months. GO 351 !!!
