fan clutch quesions
My 84 gt has a loud roaring sound above 2500 rpm's, the mechanic that I have do all the work on both my cars says its the fan clutch. I'm going to go get the part tomarrow but I need to know if it is thermal or non-thermal. I've never dealt with a fan clutch before, I dont even know what it is but I'm sure I can change it out. What are some pointers that I need to know to change this thing out. Thanks in advance.

RE: fan clutch quesions
im not sure if it is thermal or non thermal...but as far as changing it....make sure your engine is cool....then unbolt the fan from the motor it is 4 bolts i think it is 10mm wrench...then there should be 4 or 6 bolts that hold the fan and the clutch part to gather..unbolt them and toss the old clutch and put the new one in and bolt it back up....should take about 15 minutes...good luck...

RE: fan clutch quesions
I assume yours is thermal. Normally when they go bad they lock up. When they lock up, it turns the fan all the time instead of just when it is needed. The roar would be from moving more air than normal. If it is locked up, with the engine off try to spin the fan, if it will notl turn, it is locked up.
