Default Help Bent Axle

over the weekend i took an off-ramp too fast and did two 360's and i smacked my rear drivers rim against the curb. i took a huge chunk out of it. when i was driving away i noticed that my drum brake was rubbing wicked bad. so i took off the tire and i could see that the rear axle( where the tires bolts onto) was like bent with out even taking off any of the brake drum parts. my Ques is: what do i look for to get a stock drivers side axle, also do i need a new drum brake set up, and anything else i should know that could be messed up. Thanks, Enjoy the pics

brings back memories... I did something very similiar. My passenger rear tire hit the curb and a chunk of my rim came off. I had to buy a new rim and axle. I took it to the shop and they charged 450 for everything. All he had to change was the axle...everything else was fine. He also changed the bearings because they were a little worn out.

Yeah, a shock like that can crack and bind a bearing. I bent an axle in my chevy pickup hitting a tree stump, I had a new axle and bearing kit installed. Go with the new bearings if you do it cause they will have it apart anyway.

3rd the new bearings man. You shouldn't need a whole new drum brake setup. Maybe a new drum, or you might just need to get it turned. But if you are going to do one side of the brakes, do both. It's not that bad a thing to replace. Axels comes out very easy, diff cover comes off, pull differential center pin, push wheel into car, pull c-clip off, and then you can just pull the whole wheel/drum/axle off in one step. (Though I would suggest taking the wheel off fist to make that easier.)
