supercharger anyone ?
i have recently bought a supercharger i had a freind tell me that if i was to put it on i would have to rebuild the bottom end ? I cant see why i would have to do that because i just rebuilt the whole motor in june plus it only had 88k original miles on it anyway . any one installed a aftermarket supercharger without rebuild ? this is my first supercharger help on this would be nice . thanks alan

RE: supercharger anyone ?
the motor was pulled in june like i said and had a rebuild in my garage . I bout a set of aftermarket heads and was told that they were good if you had a supercharger on your motor .I tryed to prep the motor for a supercharger when putting it back together and dumped atleast five thousand dollars into it . I have never had a supercharger on any thing so i dint know how much psi or anything i could run . When i bought the supercharger the guy at the tunning shop wanted like two thousand dollars to put it in ! I had just spent my money on the rebuild and cold not see me spending that much for such a little job . I suppose he was trying to take me on the deal because i was young but im not stupid . however i did get an okay deal on the supercharger it was only $856.00 so i came out lucky because it was brand new in the box . he was kinda pissed because i told him i would let him install it . I am only going to run 6-8 psi anyway so if you guys know people that have done it without problem thats a good deal . thanks for your advice cross your fingers the mad scentist is about to go to work . lol

I don't see why you'd have to rebuild the bottom AGAIN if you just rebuilt the entire motor in june. Did you friend know this. He may have been suggesting this thinking it was the original motor, which in that case would be a good insurance suggestion. Put it on you can run 10 psi or more if the rebuild was done correctlty.
P.S. that is not meant as a personal comment about your mechanical ability.

Your friend is saying this because many people think that you NEED a forged bottom end to run any type of forced induction, which is false. If you stay at low boost levels and keep the tune conservitive you will be fine. If in the future you want to run a lot more boost then yes, lower compression pistons and a forged rotating assembly are a good idea.

Okay here is the latest . I am starting on my car monday. I have asked my freind what he was talking about and he suggested i do another rebuild just in case but i will listen to you all because i dont think he knows what hes doing lol . The shop i work in supplied me some of the tech support on the installation and also said it did not need a rebuild . This is the first supercharger i have put on and i just needed some opinions so thanks guys . I am runnuing 10psi istead of the planned 6-8 and hope that everything holds well . During the rebuild everything went well but i had done rebuilds before i hope this job turns out as good . Is there anything i should watch for or anykind of tips you guys can give for smooth installation ?

RE: supercharger anyone ?
Well if you have enough know how to rebuild a motor, then you should have plenty enough to know that you freind is full of it,since there is 100k mile stock shortblocks in fox's just know getting introduced to forced induction and they hold up fine,it is really all in your tune and driving habits to how long the motor will last.
