Default Trans Help.....

I have an 83 fox with 5.0 swap from an 88. My Trans before was a S.R.O.D. 4 speed junk trans and i now have a world class TKO T-5. Eaither im an idiot or the f&*%$#^ thing does not fit. I fit the clutch 3 times tro make sure it was right but the trans will not go all the way in. I was told i need not to switch the pilot bearing. Is that wrong? What could be the problem?

did you get the bellhousing with the tranny and also did you take the shifter off the tranny. I had that problem too i took the shifter off bc it was getting in the way and the tranny slid right in after that

Yeah i mean the bell housing is the saftey lakewood steel bellhousing, and the motor and trans are out of the car right now so the shifter is not the problem at this point but the shifter is not on the trans.

I had the same problem trying to fit my tranny in, I trying turning it, forcing it but nothing. Finally went down to the auto parts store got a clutch alinment tool and see if there was any bind in it at all. As I stuck my hand in the bell housing I noticed small pieces of metal. Turned out that I either bent or broke the poilite bushing and throw out bearing so they had to be replaced.

Is the bellhousing already on the car? Easiest way I found of doing it is puttng the bellhouseing on first then try to slip the tranny in.

O.K.------ Do you have a TREMEC TKO or a T-5? The TKO takes a different clutch disc(more splines) then the TKO and T-5 ,which use I think a 10-spline input shaft. If you try to install, will hit on the disc splines and NOT go thru it! Also the out put shaft is different. Will need a different front yoke for the drive shaft. I thinks it's the same as a C-6 trans.yoke. I did the swap on my 86Gt. So this is 1st hand knowledge. The pilot bearing is a BIG pain! Some mechs. fill with grease and insert a tool inside bearing to put pressure. Hit with hammer and comes out. There is also a puller(hard to find) . I had to get a cheisel and saw zaw!! Cal me if need more info #301-517-5749 ask for Sergio. Good Luck!!
