(school a young 5.0 Mucsle Car Owner) is the displacement the same thing as the size of the engine. is a stock black a 302 if not what is it. if i want to refresh my engine because shes stock and been runnin for more than 200,000 miles (i'm her 2nd owner she in good condition), what should i do i know it has to do with get the pistons cleaned or replace and the stock block balanced; if i'm not makin sense what i want to know is if i want to keep my stock block block for a while what should i do to refresh the engine components.

yes, displacement is the same thing as engine size. the answer to the secod part depends on your budget. i suggest a rebuild with new pistons, .030 overbore, a new high performance camshaft and new timing chain, all new bearings, gaskets, etc. that would be a good refresher for minimum cost

mkspeed answered it pritty well for ya, but i want to add on a lil here, when and if you get the motor rebuilt the new bore will be determined by the machinest, it may only need to be a .10 overbore depending on how it was run. you do not need to balance the motor but it is a good idea.

So many different ways to go here. My first question with these will always be:

What's your budget? Tell me what you have in the wallet, and that will give me a lot of direction on which way to guide you.

See sig below and then PM me for more knowledge. Or drop a number in the thread and we'll getcha going in any direction your greenbacks will take you.

5.0 is a metric measurment for 5 liters. You engine is 302 cubic inhces in displacement. BTW, it is only the forth engine ever to have a metric size designation from Ford.
First was way back in 1966 with the 7.0 (428cid) Galaxies.
Then we had a 1.6 Pinto, a 2.0 Pinto and finally the 2.3 Pinto/Mustang II.
Your bore is 4.000" and the stroke is 3.000 as it has been on ALL 302 Fords since the introduction in 1968.......
1 liter is about 61 cubic inches.....

I've always been nagged by not knowing the exact liter to ci ratio, as far as I can tell it's really close to 61, but not exactly (somewhere around 60.96-61.02). Yeah, I realize that it isn't really important and 61 is a really good estimate, but I was just wondering.
