Default speedo gear question (yes i've read the sticky)

I have a 91 GT 5speed and im going from 2.73 to 3.73 gears. I'm looking at alot of charts showing what speedo gear to get and it stops at 3.55. I've called 50resto and they told me I'd need a 21 tooth gear. I called Steeda and they told me a 23 tooth gear. Anyone with a 90-93 5spd with 3.73s here? What speedo gear did you use? Steeda told me the closest thing I could do is just get the 23 tooth but said it will still be off by about 6-7%. Any ideas? Thanks...

i have the 23 tooth in my car, my speed odmeter is about 10 mph off
the drive gear in your trans needs to be changed to make it correct

I'd go with the 23 tooth, it'll show up as less mileage on the odometer

Is there any way to get an accurate reading? I don't want to be followed by a cop and guess what my speedo should read to be at the speed limit. I'm hearing things about a 23 tooth jeep gear...will this give me a more accurate reading?

all the 23 tooth gears are jeep gears......and they are white. ford never made one, cuz there are too many teeth and it wears it fast. it is also the wrong pitch for any ford trans...but especially bad in an aod.

what you need to do (your not gonna like it) is change the drive gear in your trans. it's on the output shaft. just c-clipped on there.

it is also a plastic gear, but requires you to remove the tailshaft to get to it.

anyways....you have an 8 tooth drive gear and a 18 tooth driven gear (yellow)

what you need for the best setup is a 6 tooth drive gear and use your 18 tooth driven gear.

if you do a 7 tooth drive, you need a 21 tooth driven.

i prefer way less teeth , they will never wear out really.

an 8 tooth only allows you to correct for up to a 3.27 gear w/ the ford 21t driven, and a 7 tooth allows correction up to 3.73 w/ a ford 21t
