Getting curious about the T5 swap, just wanting some info...
Hi guys, I'm hearing more and more that the t-5 swap is really worth it over a tricked out AOD. Just wondering how time consuming a project like this would be, with someone that's never done anything like this and how expensive it would be. I've seen some nice t-5s for around 400 bucks, plus the cost of a nice clutch 200-250, plus the pedal assembly (I have no clue what that would cost), what else is involved in this swap? And if anyone has ever done it, how long did it take you? Will I have to cut any wires or do any afro engineering?
Cant help you with the tech. but you will really enjoy the manual. Also remember if you dont change the ECU then you will be thrown a lot of codes if you ever run a scanner, but obviously you can disregard them.
I wouldnt think it would be that hard, just need the tranny, clutch, clutch cable, Bellhousing, Pedal assembly and drive shaft possibly. I donno bout the fly wheel.
Its sounds expensive, but if you can the parts cheap or used you might be able to pull it off. your planing on doing it yourself?

Yeah I'm sure that I can do it, I've dropped and bolted in trannies on miscellaneous vehichles (a chevelle and a few pickups), I dunno how hard the pedal assembly would be to hook up, I heard that it's a PITA! As for the clutch cable, well that sound like a bolt in kinda thing, I have a code reader but I will just disregard the codes, and I will probably get a new/diff. steering wheel if i do end up going that route. I found a used kit that someone is selling on Ebay for 500 bucks, 175 for shipping that has everything that I'll need to convert it. Maybe I'll just save my money and sell this car and buy an original 5 spd. car.
dude, check out muscle mustangs and fast fords magazine (jan 06) issue. It has a pretty good article on this very subject towards the back. Lots of good pics. The way the article states, the guy did it in a day. Doesnt talk much about the pedal assembly. I was looking into it, but just dont want to throw the cash at it right now..... good luck
