Ok well this is my first post, and i think it would be a good time b/c i have just recently got my first car. 1990 mustang GT/Cobra I am in love with the car, and me and my father have just installed a rebuilt automatic trans. I wish it was a 5spd and i looked at some conversion kits and the lowest i found was 1400 for all of it, trans and all. I have 2 questions one is does any of you guys (or girls) know the cheapest way to conv. my car from auto to manual? 2nd question i have just bought a new battery and a new alternatori installed them both but the battery light still comes on, i thought that well maybe the computer is just messed up or soemthing but thenI drove it for a while and it worked fine. But then one time it wouldnt start b/c the battery was dead. I took both the battery and alternator to advancedautoparts and they tested both and said both were perfect. I was just wondering does anyone know what this problem could be? I talked to the guy at advanced auto and he said maybe its the connection. But then idk why the battery light would come on then? I'm not that experienced with cars i mean i love them i know alot about them but not enough. So i was hopeing that some1 here could shed some light on the situation. Thx for your replys
buy the computer and all necessary parts from a wrecked 5.0 5-speed is the cheapest way to convert.
it can be done for as little as $500 for the needed parts
+ a new clutch , and i recommend having the trans rebuilt too...mostly for the synchros, it should cost no more than $300 for a complete rebuild of a t5 as long as there is no damaged gears , or cluster shaft.
as far as the charginfg problem ?????
i would remove the both cables from the batt...sand it all down, hook them up then seal them.
then remove the ground, from the grounding point, and make sure it's clean.
then check the positive connection to the selonoid, and starter too.
since the batt and alt are new...that pretty much leaves only a bad connection.
but the starter could be bad, did you recharge the batt b4 they tested it? they cannot do an accurate test on the batt if it is not fully charged. and the starter wil go "click click click " like a dead batt if the selonoid is bad...and there are 2....the selonoid mounted on the fender, and on the starter itself.
