ORIGINAL: stanglx2002

the lower the timing the better the low end
the higher the timing the better high end

I have mine at 12 degrees and 89 octane

its the other way around,
lower timing gives you more top end power
and higher timing gives you more low end power.
mine is set at 17 degrees with 91 octane.
from 12 degrees to 17 degrees I gained 20hp.

Right now the exhaust is totally stock. I'm looking now for some shorty unequal lengths, an o/r H-pipe and some 40 series flows dumped. I've ran this on two other mustangs and they responded well.

I took it out for a spin today to see exactly where the power is lacking and it seems that the main lagging issue is in third and fourth gear. What gears come stock on a cobra?

Is changing the timing as easy as using a timing light and turning the distributor?

if your low end is not there you want to leave the stock headers on it, they a better for low end than aftermarket headers are.

Stock gear is a 3.08, without actually seeing your car it's hard to tell but the stock gears really kill low RPM acceleration.
