i just recently bought a 1983 Gt...it has no spark..so when i opened the hood to start seeing why..i noticed it had a HEI GM cap on it..with the coil that sits on top of the cap. i took the control module out of it..went to the parts store they told me it was a GM part.. is it possible to change over a frod dist. to HEI>.im boggled

thanks

First of all, where's the distributor located on your engine? Front or back...need to get this straight to make sure you really don't have a Chevy engine in there.

going back to the DUI hei cap...wouldnt you have to use a different distributor?....since the ford dist. uses cllips and the hei uses screws?

One thing to check would be the pick-up coil...you can use a DVOM to check the coil's resistance, it should be in the 500-1500ohms range and, that it's not shorted to ground within the dizzy. LUK
