Default TV cable out of adjustment cause OD not to work?

I know that my TV cable is slightly out of adjustment but could that cause my OD not to work. I'm thinking that my OD band has burnt out. The only reason that I'm questioning this, is that my shift points are a lot lower (like 4,500 rpms under WOT) and when ever it shifts into OD it acts like it is in neutral and it just revs until I shift it back down into 3rd.

It could if it thinks your throttle position is higher than actual(I forgot if AODs are push or pull TVs). You would also get hard & high shifts, which leads me to think that it is not a primary factor. You're probably right about your band.

I don't give it WOT in OD, i'll either put it in D when I down shift from OD to 3rd or when I'm racing or just driving fast i'll just leave it in D. But that makes no sense, why would the OD band affect my other gears shift points? Should I slide the adjuster block forwards or backwards for higher/harder shifts, I've monkeyed around with it a lil bit but can't quite get it figured, and without the throttle cable going WOT when I floor it I can't really properly adjust the tv cable.

with the TV cable pin moved forward it will make sluggish shifts, with the TV cable pin moved backwards it will increase shift firmness and points. like 1/4' backwards is all that is needed from the center spot.

I don't know if Mustangs have a rubber grommet on the TV cable or not, but on my Mercury it dry rotted and I had the same thing, no OD. Ford has them for about 4 or 5 bucks for a pair.
Don't try to force it into OD cause it will burn up the tranny and cost you about $1200 or so.

Well I figured out a way to make my car go WOT, It's crazy loose though. When I floored it (before I found out that it was loose) I was only going at about 3/4 throttle when the pedal was on the floor. I think that it should make a noticable difference after I tighten it.
