RE: Head porting advive
no it isn't hard you just have to know what your doing as doing a back yard port job like just hogging things out will make to car slower ,have idle issue and uneven combustion..you want every port the same

RE: Head porting advive
I would use air power die grinders, several. That way instead of changing the tool in the grinder, you just go to the next grinder.
Sandpaper rolls are a very good idea for port matching.
Take your time
You'll want a good face shield, some gloves and some paper masks.
BTW, a 100cc burret is a good idea so you can measure where you started and where you are.
Take your time.
The last set I did were for a 440 Mopar. Took about 45 hours.
Got me .25 seconds off the ET.
I've been doing them off/on for nearly 30 years.....

RE: Head porting advive
Thanks for all help
I just started working on my first head, Gasket matching the intake ports.
Tomorrow I'll start on the exhaust ports wich seems to be a hard work.
How much HP gain could I specte from a medium skilled head job?
I already ran 14.4@98.6 with minor mods on stock heads.
Just want to keep up the good name of mustangs where I live!

RE: Head porting advive
does anyone have any advice for the intake manifolds as well? I purchased an air powered dye grinder and a Sandard Abrasives delux porting kit and im about to start porting my uppers and lowers plus the cylinder heads. i would like to also put roller rockers, lifters and a new cam in, is there anything i should know or will have to do computer and tuning wise? as of now I have bbk shorties with two chamber flows and a bbk CIA, and the car is a five speed 92 lx with 308 posi. Any help? sorry for the random and out of order info on the car i was just tring to tell you all what you might need to know haha.

RE: Head porting advive
just the stocker, i'd like to snag a gt-40 but a guy at this mustang shop where i live in SD said that the explorer's intakes are missing an egr hook-up that wouldnt let me pass cal. smog. i dont know if this is entirely true but i figured i wouldnt mess with it.

RE: Head porting advive
probably true coming fron someone who is trying to sell you something, sounds like he's just an honest guy(although i dont know myself) you are not going to be able to do alot on the upper intake but the lower intake matched to the heads will see an increase even more so if you have some light to moderate porting on the heads. debur the heads(take the rough edges off intake and exhaust) and port match intake and exhaust. even the factory replacement gasket will show some type of difference in the matching of one or the other. DONT OVER PORT! water jackets(at a severe point of over portring) will become an issue. also a head thats ported too much will not make enough low end power to get you off the line unless you up the compression, boost, or N2O

RE: Head porting advive
Yeh sounds pretty complicated. Sounds like alot of work, so if I need anything ported (like heads) Ill take it to a speed shop. I could probley do the intake manifolds but as well, ill be taking them to a speed shop. My buddys dad dose it, but he says he wants 250$ for a intake manfiold job. Is that to much?
