NEED HELP OF SOME EXPERT STANG TECHS
Hey, whats up. Im new to the whole mustang scene, and i want to get some questions answered. Any help you guys can give would help immensely.
First off, What year and version of 5.0 stang is best to get?
Second, manual, or automatic?
Third, can you guys give me some suggestions to mods under 1500 dollars for my stang. No nitrous, no boost, please.
Thank you very much in advance for helping me get started.

89 IMO But it would be up to the buyer...And i would perfer the t-5 for the easy of going faster and the fun factor...And you could do k&n,gear, full exhaust, mass air would be a good start also..

89 has the forged internals which is a plus. Anyways are you going to be installing the stuff yourself or having someone else. If your doing it yourself then get full exhaust (headers back), gears, CAI, throttle body and a short shifter (pro 5.0) That would be an awesome start. You can buy some great used parts off of www.corral.net under the classifieds. If your are not installing it yourself then you can look at full exhaust and maybe the gears, if you have money left over you can get the short shifter, that is the easiest install that you can do yourself. Good luck and hope this helps.

They aren't forged internals. They are forged pistons. They were in there from 87-92 (earlier also but I'm only speaking for 87-93 cars). 89-92 are the best years (mass air and forged pistons) and buy a 5 speed. It's probably very easy to find 87-88 cars that have already been mass air converted also.
Mods for under $1500: gears, full exhaust, pulleys and intake.

Id say 89-92.....same car...maybe you could find a newer one in better condition if you went with something like a 92 over an 89...dosent matter though...and a 5 speed is much more fun and puts more power to the ground....heads cam and intake for 1500...go used....ebay....its do-able

89 for the simple fact that it was the first year of mass air and the last year of no air bags, so your getting a lighter car with better tunability. as far as finding an 87-88 stang that has already been converted to maf....dont do it. i wouldnt trust it if i was you and only for the simple fact of i converted mine over and it ran like **** for ever. if your gonna by an 87-88 buy it non mass air so you can then convert it your self and know what kind of problems youll be running into with out guessing why somethings goin wrong.
if u plan to keep your mods light( meaning no touching of anything on the motor besides the little things but keeping everything else stock and no boost) then id suggest you getting a speed density car. 87-88 for the simple fact that they run stronger and respond way better to the smaller mods then the mass air cars do. beleive me, my car was speed density for a while and i had all the little stuff done to my motor and i was beeting guys with more mods, including gears, done to there cars then i had mine, but of course the stroker went in and the problems came up so now im back to square one. hope this helps

i like 93's best...no 1979 looking interior maplights and other crappy stuff.
i have had 1988, 1989, (2) 1990's and a 1993. 2 aod's and 3 5-speeds
anyways....you said you don't want spray or a blower, so don't sweat the hyper pistons.....it means ABSOLUTELY nothing to you or anyone else unless you plan on spraying 150+ or trying to get 14+ lbs. of boost.
so get the cleanest car for the best deal you can find.....try to find under 100k or close to it (getting harder by the month for a legitemate price)
definitely do a 5-speed.....
and for starters...get gears , a shifter and cheater slicks.
after you get used to that...(should be capapble of knocking down mid 13's , if it doesn't ....practice driving more)
save for the heads, intake, cam and lca's + what goes w/ upgrading.....maf,inj,tb fuel pump etc.
but thats my opinion...take it for what it's worth
