Default 4cyl to 8cyl conversion

can a 88 4cyl transmission handle a slightly modded 302? im looking at a car right now and the guy selling it already swapped the 4cyl to a built 302 and im not sure if the trans is stock. he said the spedo and tach dont wont either..... is this a sign of anything bad? also, where can i find a bezel that flips the a/c panel with the radio. ( the shifter gets in the way of access to the radio). ive seen them somewhere but i forgot where and cant find it.

THANKS A BUNCH

4Cyl tranny will not bolt to a V8 302 so you must have a 302 tranny, more than likely stock. get an after market tach and you are good to go. the rest, not sure.

Man, Im not sure you want to buy anybody elses basketcase conversion. A V-8 is quite a bit heavier than a 4 banger, did this guy replace the springs and such in the front end, or did he just drop in a 5.0 and adjust the toe? Why buy that car and spend all your money trying fix everything that needs fixed to make it a V8 car? 5.0's are a dime a dozen anymore...you can find them in pretty good shape anywhere from 3 to 5 thousand.

If he did put a 4cyl. tranny behind a V8 (it'd have to be the five speed with a V8 bellhousing, the autos won't change out I don't think) it won't survive long, neither will the rear axle if he didn't change that out. (I know, I've blown up TWO 7.5 rearends with 2.3s pushing them, one modded, the other not!) I'd personally walk away from that car and either find a clean 4-banger if your wanting the cheaper insurance and do the swap yourself later and do it right, or find a halfway-decent 5.0 car and save all the money you'd spend fixing someone else's swap or doing a swap yourself.

(Of course, as I type this, I'm in the middle of one 2.3-to-5.0 swap and getting ready to do another on a friend's car in a marathon weekend with three helpers!)

For 5k you can get a REALLY nice fox. Ive seen good condition running foxes w/ decent milage and good paint for 2k.

just get a car thats done right. you will find one just wait and you will find a nice one.

the radio gets in the way of the radio? do you mean when you go to put a cd in? is the radio in the very bottom? if so there should be some type of spacer on the bottom then the radio.
