Default 86 GT motor rebuild

Hello to all, I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I have an 86 GT with 70,000 miles. This was my car while in school. I have not driven it about 7 years. I am thinking of starting to freshen it up. I am not looking for a big horsepower rebuild. I am looking to drive the car on weekends only for leisure. Does anyone have any input on what I should do to the motor to bring it to life. I don't want to spend a ton of money and I know I can use heads and intakes from other years to liven it up. What years should I be looking for? The car is bone stock fuel injected HO. Thanks for the input.

Default RE: 86 GT motor rebuild

I should add I already have an aftermarket H-pipe and no converters. Other than that stock. I am reading alot about the gt-40 out of the exploder. Will this be a good idea or bad idea? I know my piston setup is crap from what I hear so I know I need new pistons. So I need to freshen up the motor. So I am thinking heads and intake off another year pony or exploder. I don't want to go mass air. I would like to keep the bills around $1500, that should keep the wife off my back. Keep in mind I have some motor work with the piston swap. I will be doing most the work myself besides block work if any. Thanks for any advise.
