Default Charging system problem

Hello everyone, have a problem here. I have an 89 LX Notch with a Carbed 302. The battery has been relocated to the trunk (not by me). The problem is the alternator is not charging. I have a new alternator and I had it tested to make sure it works and it does. I am having some trouble tracking the problem down. Does anyone know what the voltages at the regulator should be (ignition on/off, etc??) Any ideas on where to look? And where are the fusable links in the system located? The stock battery guage isnt working at all and neither does the light in the dash so could be a problem there I suppose. Can I wire straight from battery voltage to the I terminal on the regulator to see if that works? I need as detailed an answer as you can give. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
