Valve Clearance?

RE: Valve Clearance?
If your engine is running and has no bent valves, you are good to go. If you have not assembled it yet, measure it before final assy. You should have at least .100 inches to be safe.

Hey with a 347 w/ flat top pistons and GT40p heads is there going to be any valve clearance problems?

if heads have been milled
if block has been milled
thickness of head gasket
size (diameter) of valves
lift and duration of cam
if pistons are notched
Best thing is to use a little putty and measure the clearance before build.

RE: Valve Clearance?
I use an old roller lifter that had the guts removed and is TIG welded into a 'solid lifter'. This way you can put head on engine, install p-rod, lash down valve to .002 (with lobe of cam on heel to lifter) and check V/P clearance. If you have anything over .070 you are ok.
I say .070 because I don't put a head gasket on it.
I use little pieces of modeling clay about the size of a pat of butter. I just slice it in 2 and measure what I've got.
BTW, I also use light checking springs, makes the job easier.....
