when I broke my e-brake cable, the cables rested on the driveshaft and made a clicking noise when I drove

Chances are its just an exhaust leak. Crawl under and tighten it up.

my car had the same symtoms. its most likely a leak where the header meets the stock h pipe.

If an auto, could be the torque converter or a cracked flex plate...(flywheel)
Converter can make a ticking sound until warm...
