Can I snip the blue wire or will it be a disaster?

If you cut the wire, nothing'll happen. I had the same problem with my seatbelts and I ripped some off of a '90 which didn't have the blue wire. They work much better. You'll be better off changing em.

I think the ones you got were from an older model year! I pulled a set out of an 85 I parted out a few months ago and they had the same wire. My 90 doesn't have the wire on them. the wire does run up to the door jamb, but not sure exactly of its function there, probably a release of some sort likeZach said
