Default oil light

My oil check light just came on, butthe oil isfull and the oil pressure gaugestays right in the middle. What could this be? Could the light turn on even if there isn’t a problem. Some ofmydash lights don’t work. Do you think it would be a bad idea to drive the car to work without knowing exactly what the problem is? I don’t want to do anydamage to the car. Work is only a couple miles away.

There is a low oil level sensor in the oil pan, it might be bad.
