CLUTCH CABLE PROBLEMS...
So i just had the mechanic install a new stock clutch and cable on my 1993 5.0 .over the weekend . Shortly after picking up my 'Stang from the garage, the outer covering of the clutch cable just collapses and the pedal drops to the floor. I get it towed back to garage- mech. concludes the cable was a bit close to the headerwhich resulted in cable collapse. pick it up Tuesday morning and it does the same thing.Mech. concludes cable is of taiwan decent; orders original FORD clutch cable. I pick it up on wednesday morning and drive no more than a mile when i hear a clank come from the top of clutch pedal, while the clutch pedal drops to the floor. Then take a peek and it looked like the cable camme off of the quadrant. Needless to say, the 'Stang is on it's way back to the shop.......the qudrant is an aftermarket (Steeda) but it does not have the firewall adjuster. Could this be the problem? fact: i had just done a short burn-out shorlty beforethe cable came off the quadrant ( about three-shifts later). Could the aggressive driving have been the problem? fact: it's a 5.0!I have always driven my car aggressively, since day 1 of like 3 years now.
Should i just get the original quadrant and dish out the $300.00 for labor that it supposively takes because the quadrant assembly requires the whole dash board to come out ( about a 2-3 hr. task). Who knows????

RE: CLUTCH CABLE PROBLEMS...
prolly routed wrong and also the new cable will stretch a little until broke in. if its routed wrong with too tight a radius in it then stretchs a little you will have it jump off the cable. it will also bind up if thats the case.

RE: CLUTCH CABLE PROBLEMS...
The Ford piece is now made in Taiwan
It's still pretty good quality though
This is the best (non-biased) article I know of
http://www.thompsontransmission.com/...djustment.html
It doesn't address your problem specifically, but does mention a/m headers, routing, and using an sn95 cable to avoid/work-around header heat/routing problems
