with a better launch you will get faster.

i used to run like 14.5 all day wit 2.1 '60 foot times then i got a 2.0 '60 foot and ran 14.2 on street tires

i still run stock gears and im automatic

1st time at the track is always fun. Just get some practice and you'll do better. If you're shifting by the stock tach, you're shifting to soon. They usually read higher than the rpm you're at. Try different shift points and see what happens. I wouldnt be suprised to see you drop a couple tenths with more practice.
